Welcome to this week's

Business Banter blog

If you're new to the Business Banter then a warm welcome to you and your company. We've now been up and running for a year and week by week we have evolved into one of the most relaxed business networking communities around, with those who regularly come along understanding that a long term strategy of business development sometimes reaps the greatest rewards.

The Business Banter is very much a Business to Business networking event where those who come along aren't there for the quick sell, though it has happened occasionally, but more to develop lasting connections with a broad spectrum of businesses. A quick run through the Who's Who will give you some idea of the wide selection of business sectors that come along each week.

This blog is hopefully a summary of some of the things that are going on, who's new to the Business Banter and information about some of the events and activities we're involved with in some way shape or form.

It's an even briefer blog than usual because the editor in chief was launching the Business Golf Association last Thursday.

And so it's a warm thanks to at least three people who made last week's Business Banter go as well as ever. That's what they told me anyway!!

Jacqui Wright  Diane Holden  Robert Greig

If you're new to the blog here you might think that we've got a couple of animated characters acting as hosts but the truth is that both Jacqui and Robert represent CommsFM and the Office Team respectively. I can confirm though that an investigation is being undertaken to find out why Diane was able to attend early in the morning with a clipboard at that.

I heard on the grapevine that there were a few newbies this week, but will update all the pages next time to come through on a Thursday.

Social Media Week

Social Media Week

Daniella Castrataro

Tim WrightThis is a key series of events across Glasgow during the week 19-23 September and glad that Tim and Daniella have such a pivotal role in pulling it all together. The schedule that's available throughout the week is really impressive and can be accessed here.

We are delighted to announce that we now have 5 Business Banters, one each morning, in the approved schedule and are currently in discussions to pull the programme together.

Each event will have 6 speakers giving a micro-presentation of approximately 5 or 6 minutes about their, or their clients, successful use of Social Media, and both Colin Abercrombie and myself are working on some web pages to showcase each speaker, sponsor and supporter of the events. As ever when ready we'll let you know.

Big thanks so far to Liz Taylor, Jacqui Wright, Benedetto Berdone, Frank Cozzo, Martin Little, Bronagh Bell who have helped me identify some of the speakers who will be speaking.

Liz LeonardBusiness Banterer hits the airwaves

Delighted to report that irregular Banterer, Liz Leonard has 3 part series going out on Radio 4, starting next Monday 29th August at 8pm.

Entitled "God in China", it is presented by Tim Gardam, Principal of St Anne's College, Oxford. The premise behind the series is that, as the Communist Party is embracing a market economy, it is turning to religion to fill the spiritual void. It was an incredible trip & makes for a fascinating series.

Parts 2 & 3 go out on Monday 5th & Monday 12th September at the same time.

The Business Golf Association

Alan McKee, MacDonald Henderson

Business Banter prizes

Gary Sutherland and Stephen Parker

Would be fair to say that Derek, Keith and Stephen were happy bunnies with all the prizewear they took home. However, the R&A are looking into whether this amounts to professionalism while Strathclyde's finest is probing into allegations of insider dealing. Always funny how when you ask a relative stranger are you a golfer they inevitably tell you they haven't played for a while.... etc. In derek's case he hadn't hit a ball seriously for years, or was that days. Anyway he won the tournament with Keith a close second. They were that close that at the 13th the two of them and their playing partners couldn't decide who was closest to the pin so we just split the prize.

Stephen Parker may be small of stature but he packs a big punch and easily won the Longest Drive at the 16th. Having played with him a few weeks ago he was always favourite to win this unless someone could take round an RPG launcher with them. That's Rocket Propelled Golfball.

As for mr Booby prise well that surprisingly went to Alan McKee who was delighted with his set of 3 pink golf balls to hit next time out.

Quick mention for Gary Sutherland who was making a long awaited return to the golf course, his last round being in 1993. gary, while many of the rules of golf have changed in that time, you still have to hit your own ball and not that of your playing partner, especially when he's cracked it up the middle and you've been out of bounds before you even get to his ball!! Still Gary can be secure in the knowledge that he always has EBay to restock his golf ball supply with,.

All in all a good day out and looking forward to building on this inaugural event as we plan for 2012.
