So it's been almost 9 months since I started at Think Different Events!
Where has the time gone?
Well everything seems to have slowed down for the summer in here so I have eventually found the time to keep you all up to date with what life has been like for me at Think Different Events.
Last time I was writing in our Blog, it was just after the ACTS conference, my first conference as a part of the team. Well that seems like a lifetime ago now!
Since then I am pleased to say I have now completed my Modern Apprenticeship, and in super fast time may I just say.
Only the other week I received my certificate from the SQA giving me my qualification in Business Administration. So now all I am waiting for is the certificate from the Modern Apprentice people then have Jacky find a frame and a space on the wall for it.
Following the completion of the apprenticeship I have also been give more responsibility in the company.
Friday the 18th June marks a memorable day on my calendar.
With a little guidance from Jacky, I successfully organised the Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PPCI) National Conference in the Beardmore Hotel and Conference Centre. I was assigned the main contact for the delegates and sponsors, and all the day to day tasks that go with planning for the event.
The conference was aimed at ‘health care professionals who deliver emergency care of heart attack victims' with mainly paramedics and ambulance technicians attending, though staff who work in cardiology wards in various hospitals also attended.
There were just over 150 delegates on the day. Initially there were over 1000 invitations sent to people to register their interest in attending. The response was overwhelming and we had to create a waiting list of delegates. With shift rotations finally being given out in the weeks leading up to the conference, unfortunately there were a few people who had to turn down their place at the conference.
I have never seen my Inbox so full in the morning the way it was in the run up to the event.
With me being the admin assistant I had to do all my own admin work for the event!! It took a while but after seeing the final result, it was definitely worth it.
The week running up to the conference was really busy as we sent reminder emails to all the delegates giving them as much information as we could. The delegate packs had to be finalised, there was the task of printing each item, the colour coding of badges, folders, pens, etc. Every printer in the office was running non-stop for a few days!
On the day thankfully everything was great!
At the registration desk a lot of delegates were complimenting our efforts in the run up to the event which is always nice to hear first thing in the morning.
The live cases came as a bit of a surprise to me though. I was informed at planning meetings that if a patient arrived with a heart attack during the conference there would be a live stream to the auditorium for all the delegates. Little was I expecting a patient to be viewed within the auditorium as our guests arrived and were having their morning coffee!
So it is safe to say that the day started off slightly different from the norm. I got a bit of a fright if I am being honest and never went near the auditorium until it was unavoidable. But then as the saying goes, curiosity took over.
When I did catch a glimpse it was not as grim as I had imagined. Unless you looked really hard you couldn't see much of what was going on, but that was only my perspective. Not knowing anything about what was happening, and not understanding anything that was being described to the audience, it was all over my head.
The day ran smoothly and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The feedback we received from delegates was positive and the Doctors who were holding the conference were delighted with how the day went.
I drove home with a smile on my face the sun shining and better still it was Friday.
After all the work that had gone into preparing the conference and to see everyone enjoying themselves and telling us how they had found it beneficial and then ask me to have one next year, made me feel good.
On top of the conference I have also been in training to use the book-keeping package SAGE. I am still a little rusty in some areas but its giving me good training.
This week I was also given the administration login to work on our website. I have been moving some things around, adding new blogs with step by steps on how to organise an event, etc.
So with summer here, the schools on holiday, the learning festival on track, the scaffolding still keeping any of the glorious weather from shinning in my window and the countdown until my summer holidays drawing in I think I can say it has been one quick few months and I have enjoyed it!
Bring on the rest of the year I say.
